Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Hosts South Africa finished the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Africa Championships atop the overall medals table with five gold, seven silver, and five bronze in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

A total of 11 new champions were crowned in the EFC Performance Institute today, with only two bouts won on points.<\/p>\n

The women’s flyweight division begun the action with South African Nicole van Wyk recording a technical knockout (TKO) win after 2min 49sec in the first round against compatriot Bianca Stander.<\/p>\n

South Africa’s dominance in the women’s divisions continued as Mischka Laubscher and Kiara Fegen secured commanding first-round wins.<\/p>\n

Laubscher forced Angola’s Moneza Neves into submission with a brutal rear-naked choke with just 1:16 on the clock in the bantamweight final before Fegen got compatriot Londiwe Hadebe into an armbar to make her forfeit the featherweight crown.<\/p>\n

In the men’s bantamweight division, Maurio Silva won Angola’s first gold medal in an IMMAF competition after rocking South Africa’s Nathanial Komana with a clean left hook, prompting the referee to stop the fight.Namibia then repeated the feat as Veja Hinda triumphed in the men’s featherweight final with a clinical armbar on South Africa’s Nicolaas Vermaak in the second round.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe’s Lewis Mataya continued to assert his dominance over lightweight division, securing gold against Zambia’s Ken Nyaondo.<\/p>\n

Nyaondo lasted all three rounds against his opponent but lost 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 through the judges’ decisions.<\/p>\n

Angola went on a late surge as wins from Osvaldo Benedito, Elisio Zua and Stanislau Kakesse Wezy saw them level South Africa’s gold-medal count heading into the final bout.<\/p>\n

Angola\u2019s Juliao Sandambi and South Africa\u2019s Andile Madlala battled it out in the sole heavyweight bout of the competition.<\/p>\n

Round one was evenly matched but Madlala took control in the second and was awarded a TKO victory following a barrage of knee shots to the body, clinching top spot for his country.<\/p>\n
