Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>PATERSON, NJ – 68 Clinton Street is not just any house, it is the future home of Mustapha, Haja and their six children. Mustapha and Haja migrated from the small country of Gambia 29 years ago to provide a better life and education for their children.<\/p>\n

68 Clinton Street is also special because of its dedicated sponsors. In 2020, when George Fernstrom, long-time Paterson Habitat volunteer and supporter, passed away his family wished to honor his memory and his commitment to Paterson Habitat for Humanity with the \u201cGeorge Fernie Build.\u201d To date, the \u201cGeorge Fernie Build\u201d has raised over $135,000 for the construction of 68 Clinton Street.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is such a thrill to have so many here today with us to celebrate what really is one of the best days in the Habitat story. The day we dedicate a home,\u201d Paterson Habitat\u2019s CEO, Scott Millard said as he opened the ceremony. \u201cAs you can see today, perhaps like no other day, it really takes a community to make what we do possible. Today we are here to celebrate that community.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the dedication ceremony, Mustapha took a few moments to share his family\u2019s story.<\/p>\n

\u201c29 years ago, I came to this country. I kept saying I was going to go back, but look what I have now,\u201d Mustapha said, holding his youngest daughter in his arms. \u201cThank you, everyone. Habitat, thank you!\u201dAs part of the Paterson Habitat tradition of house dedications, the family was presented with a donated gift basket with a hand-crafted quilt made by the Clifton Quilters.<\/p>\n

Mustapha and Haja\u2019s Imam, Musa Kabba, also shared a few words with the 50 Habitat supporters in attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the day we came to this country we asked to have a good neighbor. That was his dream and he got the good neighbor now. You are the good neighbor.\u201d Kabba said, \u201cBeing good to your neighbor will change them. They will be good too.\u201d The new home at 68 Clinton Street is the 11th Paterson Habitat home that was built on this block over the past 35 years, and the organization looks forward to breaking ground later this year on the new Clinton Street Park just across the street from these homes.<\/p>\n
