Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Her Majesty The Queen has thanked people across the world as celebrations marking her seventy years on the throne ended over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The British High Commission in The Gambia had hosted a reception last week to mark Her Majesty\u2019s Platinum Jubilee, attended by government officials and the diplomatic community.<\/p>\n

Addressing the gathering, David Belgrove OBE had said: \u201cDuring her reign which started thirteen years before Gambia\u2019s first Republic.<\/p>\n

There have now been three Republics and also 20 British High Commissioners and Ambassadors\u2026.<\/p>\n

.<\/p>\n

and a couple of million British tourists.<\/p>\n

I should like to take this opportunity to celebrate our enduring friendship with The Gambia, from the many British tourists who arrive on these shores every year to a warm welcome and experience Gambian culture and diverse wildlife \u2013 to our cooperation on the international stage and our bilateral programmes.<\/p>\n

\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement from Buckingham Palace yesterday, 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II expressed: \u201cWhen it comes to how to mark seventy years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow.<\/p>\n

It really is a first.<\/p>\n

I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.<\/p>\n

While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.<\/p>\n

I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for so many years to come.<\/p>\n

I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations.\u201d<\/p>\n
