The Gambia Action Party presidential candidate, Gen Lamin Bojang has said his resignation from the foreign service is unavoidable because he has to focus on his new role as a political leader.<\/p>\n
The Brufut-born former army general Friday tendered his resignation as deputy head of the Gambian mission in Moscow, Russia.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to completely commit myself to GAP, given the task that comes with the responsibility.<\/p>\n
The area is unfamiliar to me.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t think it will be fair for me to be with the government and at the same time serve in that position.<\/p>\n
It is going to be conflicting,\u201d he told The Standard yesterday.<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cThe decision was not an easy one but I am glad to say that I was fully supported by my wife.<\/p>\n
I have people around me who are very committed to support the crusade.<\/p>\n
I think there is nothing bad in trying. I am ready and committed to use the right channel to the presidency\u201d.<\/p>\n
Bojang said he is now waiting for government\u2019s response and once they did, he will know what next to do.<\/p>\n
However, Bojang categorically denied any suggestion that President Adama Barrow has a hand in his decision.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President is not behind me. I am an independent person.<\/p>\n
I will not join anyone or group to deceive Gambians.<\/p>\n
That will never happen, over my dead body.<\/p>\n
I will not also connive with people by virtue of their positions to deceive Gambians.<\/p>\n
Maybe people are saying all this because I am away, but when I am back and start work with GAP, Gambians will know how serious we are,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
