Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>By Ida Cham & Awa S Colley Residents of Busumbala-Borehole have lamented about the poor state of the roads leading to coastal crippling transportation while they called on government through the National Roads Authority to help construct better roads, as the rainy season commenced.<\/p>\n

Speaking to The Voice, Mam Sowe, a resident of Busumbala-Borehole and a vendor at coastal road market described the poor condition of the roads as \u201cvery bad and full of stagnant water hindering works\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am appealing to the government to help and construct the roads. We will sometimes be in the car and it will get stuck in the stagnant water which passengers will have no chance than to come out of such car or bus to help push the car or bus out of the muddy waters. The bad roads disturb us a lot because we normally walk from Busumbala-Borehole to Jabang school whenever it rains due to the bad condition of the roads. If we have exams during the rainy season, we do miss paper,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are appealing to the National Roads Authority to help and construct the roads of Busumbala,\u201d Mariama Jallow begged.<\/p>\n

Ebriama Jallow, Imam of Busumbala-Borehole said they face challenges anytime it rains, \u201cthis matter has been reported to the Brikama Area Council but there is no response.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we have a sick patient during the rainy season, we have to take a donkey cart because there is no car, we the borehole people suffer a lot during any rainy season and we beg the government to help even with only gravel, \u201che said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have spent more than D300,000 last year with our money to put gravel in without the help of the government. We are paying taxes still there is no help from the government,\u201d he said and explained that all drivers registered at the garage but they sometimes find it difficult to cope with their work due to the puddles during the rainy season. \u201cWe are appealing to the government for better construction for easy movement of both drivers and customers,\u201d Sheikh Ceesay, who oversees Busumbala-Borehole garage said.<\/p>\n
