Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Several residents of Fo\u00f1i on Friday gathered in Kanilai to renew calls for the Gambia government to bring the killers of Haruna Jatta to justice. The convergence was called to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Haruna\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n Jatta was shot in June 2017 during a peaceful protest by communities in Fo\u00f1i against the presence of Senegalese forces under Ecomig stationed in the area.<\/p>\n Last year, his widow Rohey Jatta openly called on the government to investigate his death and bring the culprits to justice. \u201cWe will continue to pursue justice for Haruna Jatta,\u201d the NAM for Fo\u00f1i Kansala told journalists shortly after the prayers for Haruna Jatta.<\/p>\n \u201cWe want to know who killed him and we want his killers to be prosecuted. We want them to be brought to justice and a compensation paid to his family,\u201d Honourable Almameh Gibba said.<\/p>\n The Kansala NAM said the government should without delay respond to Mr Jatta\u2019s family\u2019s call for justice. \u201cThey need justice and closure now,\u201d he demanded.<\/p>\n He said the youth association has a certificate showing evidence of the cause of Haruna\u2019s death and two years ago, the association wrote to the president and ministry of justice seeking for justice but they didn\u2019t receive any response.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is very disheartening that anything about Fo\u00f1i and its people is not taken seriously by this government. This is a serious concern that should be addressed now,\u201d Gibba said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe people of Fo\u00f1i are no longer accepting this, enough is enough. We will take actions that will be determined by the people of Fo\u00f1i,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Rohey Jatta, the widow, said she needs closure. \u201cI want to know who killed my husband. Period,\u201d Madam Jatta told The Standard. \u201cI want to see his killers in court and now\u201d.
