Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>A 10-year old distended abdomen patient in Central River Region North is urgently in need of financial support to undergo overseas treatment. The patient has a history of distended abdomen and has been struggling with the disease for the past three years.<\/p>\n

A medical report signed by Dr. Ed Lightfoot stated that: \u201cThere is large, heterogenous and partially cystic mass involving the entirety of the left retroperitonum, measuring 10.5cm x 12.3cm x15.5 cm (anteroposterior, transaxial, craninocaudal). There was abnormal vascularity as well as subtle, punctuate shadowing throughout the mass which is suggestive of small foci of calcification.\u201d\u201cThe mass appears to be separate from the left kidney which is displaced and somewhat compressed towards the left hemipelvis, although the margins of the mass.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe liver, spleen and right kidney appear normal. The pancreas and abdominal aorta were unfortunately obscured by bowel gas,\u201d added the report.<\/p>\n

The report further said: \u201cThe urinary bladder was only partially filled at the time of scanning but appears grossly normal. No free intra-abdominal fluid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately appearances are that of paediatric malignancy involving the majority of the left retroperitoneum, and extending down to the pelvics.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGiven that the mass appears separate from the kidney with internal foci of calcification throughout, this is likely to represent a neuroblastoma, although the differential would include WIIMs tumour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Demba Kebbeh, father of the patient lamented that he has visited various healthcare facilities to treat his child but to no avail. Therefore, he said: \u201cNow I need financial support to go to Dakar, Senegal to cure the child because he cannot be treated in the country despite several attempts.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called on The Gambia Government, Non-Governmental Organizations and philanthropists to support him financially to take his child on oversea treatment.<\/p>\n
