Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>University of Lagos (UNILAG) has concluded plans to strength\u00aden collaborations with sister universities in the West African sub-region.<\/p>\n

The plans formed part of resolutions reached at a two-day Regional Stakeholders Impact Workshop, which rounded off at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre recently.<\/p>\n

Some of the areas identi\u00adfied for possible partnerships by the University of Lagos and four West African higher insti\u00adtutions include green energy, sports development, artificial intelligence, medical interven\u00adtions, and entrepreneurial inno\u00advations, especially in the fintech sector.The universities are: Univer\u00adsity of Sierra-Leone, University of The Gambia, University of Liberia and the University of Sciences, Techniques and Tech\u00adnologies of Bamako, Mali.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Chancellor, Pro\u00adfessor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian Chukwu, in his remarks, praised the African Centre of Excellence on Drug Research, Herbal Med\u00adicine Development and Regula\u00adtory Science (ACEDHARS) for bringing together stakeholders in the sub-region to discuss is\u00adsues of common concern, par\u00adticularly the improvement of the quality of higher education in West Africa through regional specialisation and collaboration.<\/p>\n

His words: \u201cOn-going conver\u00adsations that will build symbiotic relationships among universi\u00adties in the West African sub-re\u00adgion are important because that will serve as platforms for ideas cross-fertilisation and network\u00ading.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics & Research), Pro\u00adfessor Bolanle Oboh gave a pre\u00adsentation on UNILAG Strategic Plan (2012-2037) at the workshop.<\/p>\n

She said the successful imple\u00admentation of the plan underpins the quest of UNILAG to become Africa\u2019s research hub and a light\u00adhouse of solutions for the conti\u00adnent\u2019s challenges.<\/p>\n

The other participating insti\u00adtutions also made presentations, which afforded them the oppor\u00adtunity to showcase their areas of strength and collaborations with others.<\/p>\n

The highlights of the visit by the visiting institutions were a tour of some facilities across UNILAG.<\/p>\n

The facilities visited were the Sports Centre, Entrepre\u00adneurship and Skill Develop\u00adment Centre, Natural History Museum, the University Library, Distance Learning Institute, Ac\u00adademic Publishing Centre and Research Management Office.<\/p>\n
