\u201cOperation Three Years JOTNA\u201d Dissociates Itself from the False \u201cAction Plan\u201d Circulating on Social Media<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has come to the attention of the\u00a0leadership and members of \u201cOperation Three YearsJotna\u201d\u00a0that a false document entitled \u201cOperation 3 Years\u00a0Jotna\u00a0Action Plan\u201d has been circulating on the internet, especially on social media applications such as Facebook and\u00a0Whatsapp. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a group of law-abiding and patriotic citizens whose only concern is the\u00a0socio-economic development of The Gambiaanchored\u00a0on good governance, the rule of law and democratic principles, \u201cOperation Three Years\u00a0Jotna\u201d would like to completely dissociate itself from this false document. \u201cOperation Three Years\u00a0Jotna\u201d has never authored or published an\u00a0Action Plan\u00a0ofactivities\u00a0planned for December 2019, especially one that is underpinned by such ignorance and recklessness.<\/p>\n

We are confident that this false document is the handiwork of none other than PresidentAdama\u00a0Barrow and his\u00a0cronies who are hell bent, once again, on misleading, misinforming and deceiving the Gambian population. Although we are shocked at the demeaning character and low-level to which Barrow and his band of unlettered thugs would stoop in his quest to\u00a0perpetuate himself in power, we are not surprised by this latest act of desperation on the partAdamaBarrow. The publication of a false document calling on Gambians in the public service,\u00a0business\u00a0sector and general public to engage in\u00a0acts\u00a0of civil disobedience,outright lawless and vandalism, and attributing it to the good citizens of \u201cOperation Three Years\u00a0Jotna\u201d, \u00a0is the ultimate act of cowardice and dishonesty on the part of President Barrow and his supporters.<\/p>\n

However, we note that this action is entirelyconsistent with Barrow\u2019s record of dishonesty, betrayal, deception and outright lies that, unfortunately, have seen him manipulate his way to the pinnacle of power in our dear country, despite his evident ineptitude. It is yet another manifestation of a deficit in integrity, honesty and credibility that personifies\u00a0Adama\u00a0Barrow. It is these same fundamental character flaws\u00a0that have led him to unashamedly walk back on every single promise that he made to his Coalition partners and the Gambian electorate in2016.<\/p>\n

Precisely for these reasons, \u201cOperation Three Years\u00a0Jotna\u201d will continue\u00a0to pursue\u00a0its legitimate cause\u00a0to hold\u00a0Adama\u00a0Barrow accountable to the electorate for the promises he made during his electoral campaign, including the fundamental provisions of the Coalition Memorandum of Understanding that:\u00a0(i) he will serve as interim President for a period of three years, step down and call for fresh elections; (ii) he will not\u00a0contest\u00a0the first post-transition elections; (iii) he will serve as a neutralarbiter\u00a0for the post-transition elections without supporting any political party or candidate.<\/p>\n

Unlike\u00a0Adama\u00a0Barrow, \u201cOperation Three Years\u00a0Jotna\u201d is committed to promoting honesty, integrity and\u00a0adherence\u00a0to the rule of law as core values of The Gambia\u2019s political culture.\u00a0It is for these reasons that we condemn in the strongest possible terms, the false\u00a0association\u00a0of our movement with a document that calls for\u00a0acts\u00a0of banal illegality and lawlessness. Such\u00a0acts\u00a0have no place in the\u00a0new Gambia. Instead, come December 2019, \u201cOperation Three YearsJotna\u201d will resort to all lawful means under the Constitution of the Gambia and other laws of the land, to hold\u00a0Adama\u00a0Barrow to his electoral promises. \u00a0In doing so, our only quest is for a new Gambia that is characterized by honesty and integrity in our body politic, as well as a responsive and accountable Government. We call on all Gambians to come out in droves in December 2019 so that\u00a0AdamaBarrow learns, once and for all, that power does indeed belong to the people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
