{"id":23893,"date":"2022-11-16T19:54:43","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T19:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/health-ministry-unable-to-resource-efsths-skin-clinic"},"modified":"2022-11-16T21:40:43","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T21:40:43","slug":"health-ministry-unable-to-resource-efsths-skin-clinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/health-ministry-unable-to-resource-efsths-skin-clinic","title":{"rendered":"Health Ministry Unable To Resource EFSTH\u2019s Skin Clinic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>The Gambia\u2019s ministry of health is still unable to find a lasting solution to the human resource constraint faced by the dermatology unit of the country\u2019s main referral hospital.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Skin Clinic of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) continues to see an influx of patients each working day but the unit has only one dermatologist and the situation has remained worse for more than one year now.<\/p>\n<p>According to some patients, who spoke to JollofNews, the only dermatologist at the health facility is overworked and overstretched as his unit is always overwhelmed by patients.<\/p>\n<p>Skin complications have been on the increase since rains subsided.<\/p>\n<p>More than 60 patients report to EFSTH each day, complaining of dermatological disorders, JollofNews can authoritatively report.<\/p>\n<p>However, the only dermatologist identified as one Vladimir from Cuba, is struggling to cope with numbers<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a brilliant dermatologist but I sometimes pity him because of the daily pressure on him from patients. Normally, he\u2019s supposed to attend to only 40 but he sometimes bend over backwards to up to over 50 patients,\u201d remarked our source.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the ever-growing number of people with skin disorders would want the health ministry to adequately resource the skin clinic of the country\u2019s main referral hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe doctor is kind but this situation is not sustainable.
