{"id":24035,"date":"2022-11-18T17:37:36","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T17:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/udp-to-maintain-most-mayors-and-chairmen-as-candidates"},"modified":"2022-11-18T17:37:36","modified_gmt":"2022-11-18T17:37:36","slug":"udp-to-maintain-most-mayors-and-chairmen-as-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/udp-to-maintain-most-mayors-and-chairmen-as-candidates","title":{"rendered":"UDP TO MAINTAIN MOST MAYORS AND CHAIRMEN AS CANDIDATES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>Following the closure of applications for the party\u2019s sponsorship in next year\u2019s local government elections, the opposition United Democratic Party has said most of its sitting mayors and chairmen have been selected unopposed as the party\u2019s official candidates in their areas.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>These include Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe of Banjul, Talib Ahmed Bensouda of KM, Foday Danjo of Basse Area Council and Landing Sanneh of Mansakonko Area Council.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to party spokesman Almamy Taal, UDP will have to conduct primaries in Jangjanbureh and Brikama Area councils.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 16 applications have been received by the party for the Brikama Area Council.
