With reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Gambia)\u2019s\u00a0diplomatic\u00a0circular\u00a0Note Ref No: PR568\/01\/TEMPT\/ (PP) of 22 September 2019 addressed to All\u00a0Diplomatic\u00a0Missions and International Organizations in Banjul and pertaining to the new visa free policy adopted by the Ministry of Tourism (Gambia) relating to The Gambia now being \u201ca new Free Zone for all\u00a0Charteredand Scheduled flights\u201d, I wish to submit as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Formerly, as a\u00a0British passport\u00a0holder or a British\u00a0citizen, you were charged a fee of D500.00 (five hundred Dalasis) after a period of stay of\u00a028 days\u00a0in Gambia.<\/p>\n

Now this previously levied fee has been changed to D1000 (one thousand Dalasis) per month.<\/p>\n

Indeed,\u00a0 this was the new fee that I, as a Gambian resident abroad with\u00a0dual\u00a0nationality, paid at Kairaba Station \u2013 immigration department.<\/p>\n

To make matters worse, no official receipt was\u00a0drawn\u00a0to show that payment of the monies were or would be transferred into government coffers (which is a simple accounting procedure and financial regulations requirement), nor was any receipt or even any piece of\u00a0document\u00a0issued to me in\u00a0acknowledgement\u00a0of the payment, at least for my own records.<\/p>\n

In the circumstances, I am of the considered view that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should make matters clear for the general public as regards\u00a0all new\u00a0immigration measures relating to the outside world, particularly these visa\u00a0extensions\u00a0fees, notably for the different periods or lengths of stay in The Gambia ie fees for 3 months\u00a0 or 6 months or even l year.<\/p>\n
