Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>However, some scrap metal dealers in the Kanifing Municipality have claimed that \u201cThe Gambia government does not consider them\u201d when giving out contracts.<\/b><\/p>\n

Lamin Dukanteh is a metal scrap dealer in Kanifing. Dukanteh has been surviving through scrap metal work for a decade now. He relies on his business to put food on the table for his family.<\/p>\n

However, he like several other metal dealers is of the belief that Gambian authorities do not consider them when issuing out contracts.<\/p>\n

He says scrap metal dealers use quality industrial metals and alloys, which are very important in the production of steel, copper, magnesium and other vital metals. \u201cMetal scraps are resources that can be found in ruins,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n

Despite all the challenges faced by scrap metal dealers across the country, Dukanteh still calls on the youth to try their chances in the business for their own well-being and for the betterment of the country.<\/p>\n

He says The Gambia\u2019s population is mainly made up of the youth who cover sixty-five percent of the total population.<\/p>\n

Having started his business a decade ago, Dukanteh is calling for support from government authorities.<\/p>\n

Scrap metal can be refashioned into many things, he says, adding: \u201cFor example, scrap iron and aluminum metals are used extensively in the construction industry for projects as varied as roads and bridges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prince Henry is another scrap metal dealer in Kanifing, He laments the lack of support they face in the trade, saying:\u201cThe metal business is not going or growing as expected.\u201d<\/p>\n
