Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Ex-Gambia International footballer, Omar Koroma through his OJ Koroma Foundation last Tuesday presented food stuffs and baby oil to nursing and pregnant mothers at the Serekunda Health Centre.<\/b><\/p>\n

The gesture, which coincided with a talk on health and the importance of good nutrition, is part of the ex-Gambia international\u2019s foresight in complementing government\u2019s efforts in ensuring quality health for Gambians.<\/p>\n

Presenting the items, Omar Koroma explained that he\u2019s someone who has always been thinking of what little way for him to contribute to the development of his country.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, this gesture is part of giving back to my community. I was born and raised in Serekunda and I thought it\u2019s time for me to give back to my community. And I feel like this is something I want to continue and take it further from now on, hopefully, to take it to every hospital in The Gambia.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quizzed as to what motivated him to embark on such a philanthropic move, Koroma responded that people coming to the hospital need to be fed with good nutrition to ensure good health. \u201cAnd I hope Allah the Almighty will give us the strength to carry on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Gambian star thus called on all to contribute their quota towards the development of the country, saying as a citizen people need to reason that government alone cannot do it all, thus the need for partnership.<\/p>\n

For his part, David Junior Daye, Officer-in-Charge at the Serekunda Health Centre, expressed delight to be associated with the event, saying good nutrition is essential especially for pregnant mothers and growth of children under five.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was during one of his visits to the health facility and he saw for himself. Many of the pregnant mothers would complaint that they\u2019ve not eaten so that can take the \u2018Fansidar<\/b>, a drug prescribed for pregnant mothers. So, it was a discussion we had with him (OJ Koroma) and he said he wants to start and see how best he can provide these women with breakfast. And today we are happy that his foundation is here to present this breakfast to pregnant mothers at the facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that many a times when they received antenatal they would send them to the lab to check their haptoglobin in the blood. \u201cAnd most of the times we observed that they\u2019ve low haptoglobin in the blood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alimatou Sarr, a mother and beneficiary, expressed appreciation to OJ Koroma\u2019s Foundation for the foresight and prayed that God Almighty continues to guide and protect him.<\/p>\n
