Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The D24 million World Bank funded project for the construction Kuntau Area Council office complex and staff quarters has been completed<\/b><\/p>\n

The project is part of World Bank rural infrastructure project with support from the council which was constructed under the supervision of GAMWORKS.<\/p>\n

Momodou Sambou, Chief Executive Officer of Kuntaur Area Council (KAC) said the structure is now accommodating institutions and looks forward to institutions and agencies coming forward to open office space.<\/p>\n

He noted that the move taken by the government demonstrated political commitment in providing enabling working environment and enhance performance, while appealing to development agencies to partner with the council to bring about positive development.<\/p>\n

He reiterated the need for more donor partnerships in the implementation of the council\u2019s strategic plan.<\/p>\n

Saihou Jawara Chairman of Kuntaur Area Council disclosed that the council is working with a sugar processing company investor in Brazil, adding that 15 hectare of land has been secured and will be established in ChamenNianima, and documentation is almost completed which will create job opportunities for women and youths.<\/p>\n

The project will be the first-ever sugar processing plant in CRR North and would contribute to diversifying into sugar cane farming and poverty reduction.<\/p>\n

Lamin Kujabi, Director of Planning and Development at Kuntaur Area Council disclosed that all ward development plans are validated at the community to ensure community development aspirations are taken on board.<\/p>\n

He assured accountability and transparency to promote a participatory process from project design to effective implementation of development projects.<\/p>\n

Musa K Bah, Vice Chairman of the Council who doubles as councilor for Kaur ward thanked the council for the implementation of ten vegetable gardens and the construction of ward offices at Panchang and Kaur to ease communication. He noted that inadequate water supply was part of the council development priority and called for electricity expansion to boost the economy and security in the area.<\/p>\n
