Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology in collaboration with UNESCO, has concluded a four days capacity-building project on TVET and Digital Skills training for young people under the UNESCO Participation Programme.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at the end of the four days session, Craston Mendy, head of computer science at USET on behalf of the presenters said \u201cFor our country to develop and be self-dynamic reliant we must be ready and see the need in investing in TVET, as USET we have provided the space and resources needed for the intensive twenty days training. Create an uninterrupted art of computer lab for ICT and workshop for auto mechanic air conditioning repair and maintenance.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a center, he said, they are mandated to train middle-level human resources USET they are much welcoming and ready to be part of such an initiative now and in the future. \u201cWe thank MoHERST for choosing USET as a partner in this big initiative of developing and enhancing the skills level of the youths of this nation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr Mendy explained that \u201cThe need for us to acquire skills cannot be over emphasized, this is a journey that we have started we hope in the near future to have long-term training programs that will bring at least a certificate in diploma program to pursue a career in auto mechanic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to note that focus on ICT literacy and auto mechanic air-conditioning repair and maintenance is something very rare for the youths of this country and added that this is a short-term program that will last for about four months to capacities the youth of the Gambia most especially the girl child to participate in the action of skills in TVET.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer at the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority, Dr. Gibril Jaw said also that it \u201cis time to work the talk, we implement what we have discussed this is a competency-based program it cannot be treated like participants coming to display their curiosity.<\/p>\n
