{"id":30624,"date":"2023-02-27T06:54:05","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T06:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/gra-outperforms-target-intl-finance-institutions-say"},"modified":"2023-02-27T07:30:59","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T07:30:59","slug":"gra-outperforms-target-intl-finance-institutions-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/gra-outperforms-target-intl-finance-institutions-say","title":{"rendered":"GRA outperforms target \u2013 Int\u2019l finance institutions say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>Records seen by the press and confirmed by officials of major international financial institutions concluded that the \u201cexisting tax revenue collection\u201d by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) \u201coverwhelmingly outperformed the program targets and objectives\u201d. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The information that specifically commended the \u201cunprecedented performance of the GRA led by Commissioner Yankuba Darboe and his team\u201d, also revealed its preliminary data that shows The Gambia \u201ctax revenue target exceeded by over six percent\u201d despite certain glitches.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to this correspondent, officials familiar with the entire report also acknowledged \u201csome of the difficulties\u201d encountered which include lower revenue collection on petroleum products as a result of \u201crising global oil prices and lower import volumes\u201d, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, the issue of \u201chigh freight costs\u201d; the impact of the \u201cwar in Ukraine\u201d as well as the effect of the \u201cfourth wave of the Covid -19 pandemic\u201d were highlighted as some of the factors that jeopardises economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the \u201cspill-over effects weaken tourism, disrupt agricultural inputs and increase the construction costs in the Gambia&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, despite the \u201cchallenging and demanding\u201d circumstances, the GRA \u201cperform beyond expectation&#8230;thus deserve adequate commendation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, there are also reports of good performance on \u201cnon-tax revenue&#8230;with traffic picking up on the Senegambia Bridge\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Distinctly, it also revealed foreign-financed infrastructure projects and that export also \u201cimproved more than expected&#8230;driven by a stronger recovery in tourism activity which was bolstered by remittances and SDR allocation&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials also confirmed to The Press a recent \u201cdiagnostic of governance and corruption vulnerabilities in The Gambia\u201d conducted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
