Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Addressing the gathering at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA)\u2019s Taxpayers Award ceremony on Saturday, March 4th, 2023, President Adama Barrow disclosed that his government spent over D1.6 Billion on fuel subsidies.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cIn 2022, my government was left with no option but to intervene using fiscal and monetary tools to ease the cost burden on the public. For this purpose, we spent over D1.6 billion on fuel subsidies. Although it provided much-needed relief for the Gambian people, over D1.6 billion of tax revenue was forgone by Government to make fuel internally affordable during the crisis. The money could have been spent on development projects,\u201d President Adama Barrow said.<\/p>\n

President Adama Barrow spoke at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) 5th Taxpayers Award Ceremony held at a local hotel in the Senegambia area last Saturday. The revenue authorities awarded 31 people and companies that are tax compliant and timely in paying their taxes.<\/p>\n
