Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The mayor of KMC is now juggling his official functions with nightly political outings to ramp up his prospect for reelection later next month.<\/b><\/p>\n

The country\u2019s political barometer has been rising gradually as it prepares for the election of chairpersons and mayors of the various local councils.<\/p>\n

Both the ruling NPP and the main opposition UDP see these elections of the bosses of the various local councils as contests for popularity, survival, control over resources and opportunity for entrenchment.<\/p>\n

President Adama Barrow\u2019s desperation for the control of Banjul City Council (BCC) and Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has reached such a level that he was unable to conceal his intention of superimposing governors over the mayors of the two councils.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of KMC, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, is aware of the President\u2019s burning desire for a firm grip on his council and the young mayor is, therefore, currently on war-footing as contact with the NPP looms.<\/p>\n

Despite his sparkling track-record, the mayor is clearly leaving no room for complacency, considering the big clash in May when KM voters will choose between him and well-financially-resourced Bakary Badjie of the NPP.<\/p>\n

Mayor Bensouda now balances his official duties with night outings to the various nooks and crannies of the Kanifing Municipality to prepare hearts and minds for his return to office.<\/p>\n
