Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick Lowe, today highlighted some of the achievements attained under her tenure as mayor of The Gambia\u2019s capital city.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking of her achievements just after her engagement with IEC officials for her nomination, she disclosed: \u201cYou have seen that BCC had a lot of loans from the banks. It had loans from all the banks, except Standard Chartered Bank. But today no bank would come on board to say Banjul City Council has loan from it, and I don\u2019t want the people to confuse that with an overdraft.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, each institution, when faced with a dilemma, like we need to buy a table or chairs while we don\u2019t have money, we would go for an overdraft. But today, I want to tell you that Banjul City Council has no loan from any bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people I am paying scholarships for, I do not even know. So when I hear people saying, \u2018It is his people she is paying scholarship for,\u2019 that even seems funny to me. Those people whom I pay for, they know whether I knew them when they were coming to me or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also reiterated his commitment to supporting culture in Banjul, which she said is a cultural city.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have firmly supported it. Today, all the cultural activities, if you go to the hunting groups, Kangkurangs and all that, Banjul City Council is exerting effort into it, because after all, Banjul is a cultural city,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cToday, all the cultural activities, if you go to the hunting groups, Kangkurangs and all that, Banjul city council is exerting effort into it, because after all, Banjul is a cultural city.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanjul City Council, we have a budget for scholarship, a budget for culture, a budget for religion and a budget for sport. Even the sport they are boasting of today, saying they own it, had it not been because of me, the Nawettan last year wouldn\u2019t have taken place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor Lowe also highlighted her achievements in waste management and sport.<\/p>\n
