Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Childfund The Gambia recently handed over learning materials worth over D31 million to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE).<\/b><\/p>\n

The donation aims to support the government in providing free and quality education to all children in the country.<\/p>\n

Alhagie Mbye, Officer Logistics and General Services at ChildFund the Gambia said the material donated is part of his organization\u2019s Give In Kind (GIK) program which is designed to support government institutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe material donated covers all categories of education starting from elementary up to high schools, and we have targeted all the regions within the country. Some of the books can even be taken to the library at the Gambia College,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n

He said they visited some schools and realized that the performance of the students has dropped, noting that, in trying to improve the performance of the students, they decided to come up with this project of providing learning materials to schools, particularly reading materials.<\/p>\n

Alhagie Jallow, Principal Education Officer for Region One, said the donation by Childfund to his line ministry will support students to improve their reading skills. He added that Childfundhas been supportive of the education sector of the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cChildren need to be equipped with learning materials so that they can continue to learn even at home reading is an important component when it comes to education, so we should all help them to be able to read at an early stage of their education,\u201d he expressed.<\/p>\n

Alhagie Mbye observed that the materials will not only be used by secondary school students but also by the early child development (ECD) educator and students which serves as the foundation for good and quality education.<\/p>\n

Musukuta Komma-Bah, Childfund Country Director, said the gesture is aim to support the national agenda for a better education.\u201cFor this consignment, we are only donating learning materials like reading materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
