{"id":38352,"date":"2023-07-05T15:38:45","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T15:38:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/uncategorized\/audit-report-reveals-ex-governor-sanyangs-inappropriate-expenses"},"modified":"2023-07-05T16:25:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T16:25:26","slug":"audit-report-reveals-ex-governor-sanyangs-inappropriate-expenses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/audit-report-reveals-ex-governor-sanyangs-inappropriate-expenses","title":{"rendered":"Audit report reveals Ex-Governor Sanyang&#8217;s &#8216;inappropriate expenses&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>The audit report has revealed financial irregularities and inappropriate expenses by former Governor Abba Sanyang and his deputy at the Governor\u2019s Office between the period 1 January 2022 and 31 July 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving reviewed the procurement process, we noted that the Governor who is the vote-controller and the Deputy Governor \u2013 the two most seniors have initiated procurements and claiming inappropriate and unsubstantiated payments amounting to D702,560 (Seven hundred and two thousand, five hundred and sixty dalasi.),\u201d according to audit report obtained.<\/p>\n<p>Conducting a further review of the issue, the report noted inappropriate expenses were initiated under the pretence of buying cash power, telecommunications expense, miscellaneous expenses, maintenance of a vehicle, official entertainment, uniform and protective cloth among others and then imposed the invoice on the accountant for payments.<\/p>\n<p>Dwelling on the implication, the report further highlighted that having the vote-controller initiating and carrying out procurements, there is a risk of conflict of interest which might lead to potential procurement fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Giving recommendation, the audit office recommends management to implement the segregation of duty process and desist from initiating procurements and claiming inappropriate payments.
