Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has congratulated Senegalese president Macky Sall for Honouring his two \u2013 term promise to the Senegalese people.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cI write to extend my congratulatory message to you on behalf of The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) for honouring your promise to the Senegalese people to bring an end to your presidency after serving your two terms. Your decision not to contest for a third term has ended months of uncertainty, and during your broadcast you have highlighted the importance of maintaining peace in our political spectrum.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour Excellency Sall, your decision supports and upholds Democratic values and has paved the way for a new leadership to inject new ideas for the continuous development of Senegal. We have realized the unrest in the subregion is due to the leaders\u2019 prolonged stay in power. Your Excellency, Presidential term limits have spread across the world but in many countries Presidents and their allies seek to circumvent or eliminate it to prolong in power,\u201d GDC said.<\/p>\n

The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) commended the Senegalese leader for protecting democratic peace and promoting the country\u2019s interests since he came into power<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have achieved unprecedented infrastructure developments in your two terms. These achievements are evident, and every Senegalese will be proud to take ownership of,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

The GDC (Gambian Democratic Congress) stated that Sall\u2019s (President Macky Sall of Senegal) decision to run for only two terms was a calculated one. They believe that this decision will benefit many people and address serious political problems by counterbalancing the power of incumbents in the subregion and Africa as a whole.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally, President Sall, please accept my heartfelt appreciation and the statesmanship you have demonstrated. Your broadcast gave a much-needed lift to democracy in the region. As a great advocate of Term Limit both my time as lawmaker in The Gambia and other international bodies, I am proud that there are still Presidents that will honour the two terms promised made to their people.<\/p>\n

Congratulations, President Sall on your decision and wishing you all the best in your future endeavours,\u201d they concluded.<\/p>\n
