Sarr-Mendy of the Kanifing Magistrates\u2019 Court, on 12 December, 2019, appeared in court and pleaded not guilty when the charge sheet was read to him.<\/span><\/h1>\n<p>Sergeant Touray, who filed the bill of indictment before the court, made an application for the case to be transferred to the Special Criminal Division in Banjul. He said that the charge the accused was facing was a capital offence.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment bill presented by Prosecutor Touray indicated that the accused, Ismaila Ndong, a taxi driver on 4 December, 2019, at Bakau New Town, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, robbed one Fatou Njie with a knife and took the following items from her: two gold and silver rings, value unknown, fiscal cash of D12,900, a bottle of perfume, value unknown, body splash valued at D300, power bank, value unknown, a mobile phone mark Samsung Galaxy 6 edge valued at D10,000, a mobile phone mark IPhone valued at D13,000 and a simple mobile phone valued at D800, totaling D37,000, the properties of Fatou Njie.<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate P. Sarr-Mendy, in her ruling, told the court that the offence the accused person was charged with was a capital offence, adding that the Kanifing Magistrates\u2019 Court is a subordinate court and does not have the jurisdiction to deal with such cases. She subsequently transferred the case to the Special Criminal Division in Banjul and remanded the accused.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the office of the Inspector General of Police announced that officers of the Police Anti Crime Unit have arrested Ismaila Ndong, a taxi driver of New Street, Banjul, for his alleged involvement in kidnapping, violent extortion, and rape of women within the Greater Banjul Area and Kanifing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ismaila Ndong, a taxi driver, who was charged with robbery with violence before Magistrate P.
