Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Conteh Kunda Family of the Kanifing Municipality which adopted the maternity ward of the Kanifing General Hospital (KGH) since 2011 has yet again extended its benevolent gesture to the hospital with the latest donation of medical items worth five hundred thousand dalasis (500, 000).<\/b><\/p>\n

The donated items include two air conditioners, wheel chairs, oxygen concentrator, nebulizing machine, theatre shoes, among others.<\/p>\n

The gesture, according to the Conteh Kunda family, is to continue with the humanitarian gesture that their late father (Alhagie Kebba Conteh) is known for throughout the country especially in helping the needy and the most vulnerable people in our society, including the country\u2019s health sector.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the hospital, Jariatou Drammeh, the Hospital\u2019s Principal Nursing Office spoke at length on the significance of the donated items, saying: \u201cThis is now a norm for the Conteh Kunda Family. This is not the first time they have supported the hospital and I am quite sure this would not be the last. The Conteh Kunda Family has been so helpful to the maternity ward of the hospital since the inception of the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have helped us so much in improving the lives and quality of care of women in the country. It is the Conteh Kunda family that even renovated the maternity ward of the hospital when it was so dilapidated. I can tell you that the items have come at the right time, especially a time when the number of patients we are receiving daily is increasing. The items donated are mostly needed by women and we the health care providers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Kebba Gassama of KGH, said: \u201cThree days ago, we were very much in need of the nebulizing machine. We had a patient who was pregnant and needed to be nebulized. However, we could not get any machines at the ward. Therefore, it is very crucial that we have this donation today. It is timely and will go a long way in addressing some challenges we encounter at the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is also important that we have this machine at the maternity ward because we do have pregnant women who are asthmatic. I can tell you all that the items are very crucial in our patient\u2019s management. This will also help us in going extra in saving the lives of our patients visiting the hospital,\u201d he posited.<\/p>\n

Basirou Drammeh, the hospital\u2019s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said: \u201cHaving these materials at the hospital will go a long way towards improving the quality of services we offer. Once we maintain the quality of services at the hospital, it means we will have a good patients outcome. So, this means that the donors are indirectly saving lives with the donation of the latest medical items.\u201d<\/p>\n

The items, he continued, would go a long way in improving quality health services delivery at the hospital and also preventing deaths at the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that this partnership will continue so that we provide the best services for our patients. Again, the maternity ward used to be very hot but it now has two air conditioners which go a long way in ensuring that our patients and our staff are comfortable at the ward. Once the staff are comfortable, they will go the extra mile in ensuring that they offer the best service to our dear patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alhagie Mbaye B.S.O Chow dwelled on the significance of the items and urged beneficiaries to make best use of the donated materials.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to assure you that we will continue supporting the hospital in our quest to follow the footstep of the late Kebba Conteh. He was a philanthropist and has done a lot to support the needy people in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Momodou Basirou Conteh, commonly known as Boy Conteh, son of the late Kebba Conteh, said: \u201cThe latest donation is a continuation of what my late father was doing. My late dad always wanted to put a smile on faces of needy people and support institutions in the country with a view to seeing them overcome their challenges. We also want our kids to continue on that track in supporting Gambians and participate in nation building.\u201d<\/p>\n
