Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia currently has only one dermatologist to cater to the country\u2019s soaring cases of skin complications.<\/b><\/p>\n

Public health facilities across the country do not offer dermatology services and therefore, all skin complications are referred to the country\u2019s main referral hospital in Banjul.<\/p>\n

However, Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital(EFSTH) is struggling to cope with the sheer number of skin patients as the facility has only one dermatologist.<\/p>\n

Patients have to visit the hospital as early as 6 a.m. to collect numbers to enable them see the dermatologist, who starts consultations at 1 p.m. daily.<\/p>\n

As the rainy season peaks, so does the number of skin patients who visit the hospital for skin care.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, there is only one Cuban dermatologist at the EFSTH. He is overworked and overwhelmed by the number of patients, who visit the hospital on a daily basis,\u201d an insider told this medium.<\/p>\n

The press can authoritatively report that the dermatologist can see not more than 60 patients a day.<\/p>\n
