Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) \u200be t e release of the 2023 West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) (Grade 12 results), marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of our students.<\/b><\/p>\n

The total number of candidates who registered for the 2023 WASSCE is 17,201, with 16,405 candidates sitting for at least one subject, comprising 60% females and 40% males.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s results have shown Improvement in Candidates with 5 Credits or more (met University Entry Requirement) in 2023 with a slight increase of 316 candidates compared to the last year\u2019s results.<\/p>\n

Across the nation, girls continue to shine academically, representing 60% of the total 16,405 candidates who sat to the exam. Among the candidates who attained 5 credits or more, 53% are girls. This achievement highlights another significant improvement in the education of the girl child.<\/p>\n

The number of candidates with credit in mathematics has increased by 110 students compared to 2022. This upward trajectory showcases the dedication and potential of our students in this critical subject, although, there remains room for improvement.<\/p>\n

There is a decrease in performance in English language. This trend has been observed over the past three years, both in terms of credit and pass. However, MoBSE is committed to addressing this issue by enhancing the proficiency of our students in the English language.<\/p>\n

In another positive development, students have excelled in \u2018I cchnical and Vocational<\/p>\n

Education and Training (\u2018I\u2019VFT) subjects. Four 01 the top seven subjects hail from the TV I\u201d T category, with pass rates of approximately 900\/0 in Auto Mechanic, 88% in Applied Electricity, 81 0\/0 in Wood Work, and 74% in Clothing and Textile. These achievements underscore the importance of diversifying educational opportunities particularly \u2018I\u2019VET.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the 2023 WASSCE examination results offer a nuanced perspective on academic achievement, showcasing both positive trends and challenges. We acknowledged the increase in candidates achieving five credits or more and commendable successes in TV ET subjects. However, we arc cognizant of the downward trend in performance in English Language and the imperative to bolster ef(o\u0300rts in mathematics. Furthermore, the remarkable perfo\u0300rmancc of girls emphasizes the need for continued efforts in promoting gender equity and gender equality in education.<\/p>\n

MoBSE remains committed to nurturing the talents of our students and improving accessible, equitable, and quality education Ibr all in the country. We urge students, educators, and stakeholders in education to continue to work hard for the attainment of the quality education we are all yearning for.<\/p>\n
