{"id":43587,"date":"2023-09-26T17:20:41","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T17:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/?p=43587"},"modified":"2023-09-26T16:52:04","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T16:52:04","slug":"duo-selected-to-represent-utg-at-sdkji-moot-court-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/duo-selected-to-represent-utg-at-sdkji-moot-court-competition","title":{"rendered":"Duo selected to represent UTG at SDKJI moot court competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>The Law Students of the University of The Gambia (UTG) have selected Ahmed Fofanah and Algasim Bah to represent the institution at the 2023 edition of the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Moot Court Competition.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This follows the final preliminary round to select the final two to represent the Faculty of Law of the UTG at the annual international competition jointly hosted by the National Human Rights Commission in partnership with the University of The Gambia.<\/p>\n<p>The SDK human rights moot is a top programme of the NHRC that targets undergraduate law students to argue human rights issues before an imaginary regional human rights court, using African human rights mechanisms and norms.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by the country\u2019s rights body, the competition is named after former president Jawara, the country&#8217;s first leader, in recognition of his efforts in laying the foundation of the regional human rights mechanism of the African continent.<\/p>\n<p>The Moot Court Competition aligns with the general mandate of the NHRC to promote and protect human rights, especially under Section 12, Sub-section E of the NHRC Act.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s competition was held from the 5th &#8211; 10th December. 12 African universities competed in the preliminary rounds of the competition, with 8 coming to The Gambia for the quarter, semi-final and final rounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\">Gambia<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia.
