Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has had a high-level meeting with the Director General of the Malian Port of Dakar in Senegal, as the Gambia increasingly becomes a centre of excellence for learning best practice for ECOWAS member states on customs operations and procedures.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mr Salif Kone, accompanied by his deputy Abdou Karim Sissiko, was the latest to meet with the GRA Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe and his top management on Wednesday 4 October 2023 in Banjul, where they discussed issues related to trade and customs matters, challenges, and recommendations, all to plan a way forward in the best interest of the subregion.<\/p>\n

Prior to the visit of the Director General of the Malian port of Dakar, a Nigerian delegation is also currently on a five-day study tour in The Gambia to learn best practice on customs operation and procedures. All these developments have proven that The Gambia will soon adopt the Rwanda style where countries will go and learn and seek advice from the Gambia customs administration.<\/p>\n

DG Kone and CG Darboe discussed trade and customs matters hindering trade operations.<\/p>\n

The delegation was warmly received by the GRA management under the leadership of the Commissioner General.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, CG Darboe highlighted the significance of Mali, saying that sister country is a trading partner. He assured the Malians that \u201cThe Gambia will do everything it takes to facilitate trade with Mali\u201d.<\/p>\n

The head of the delegation thanked the CG Darboe for his exemplary leadership and for his effort in facilitating petroleum transit to Mali.<\/p>\n

At the end of the meeting, the Malian delegation proposed a MoU between The Gambia and Mali as they had done with Senegal, Ghana , Togo and Co\u0302te d’Ivoire.<\/p>\n
