The competition was aimed at celebrating the establishment of then Organization of African Unity (OAU) now African Union (AU) which was established on the 9th September, 1999 at Sirte-Libya.<\/p>\n<p>The competition also seeks to uncover intelligent, responsible and well-informed youngsters, who take an active interest in the world around them.<\/p>\n<p>After a keenly contested showdown, Saiko Bojang, a student at Yundum Barracks, who represented Malawi emerged the winner of this year&#8217;s African Nation Championship Quiz. Rejoice C. Unegbu, who represented Nigeria came out second.<\/p>\n<p>Majula Dampha representing Namibia secured the third spot, while Awa Camara for Kenya, took fourth position. Similarly, Isa Sabally representing Guinea Bissau settled at the fifth place.<\/p>\n<p>At the event, Kaddijatou Danso, a Marketing and Media Relationship Officer at Yonna Foreign Exchange Bureau, said the event signifies Take-M&#8217;s commitment to education and willingness to train and develop young students to become responsible individuals in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a Gambian-owned company, we stand firmly to support individuals, businesses and institutions in our quest to contribute effectively to National Development ranging from health, education, and sports amongst others&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She encouraged the participating students to always have self-confidence inorder to explore the opportunities in life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will quote from CICERO who says: \u201cIf you have no confidence in yourself, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won even before you have started.\u201d she added<\/p>\n<p>She equally encouraged all to be passionate in whatever they do and stay committed to achieving their dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Tunde Muyi Ogundimu, chief executive officer (CEO) and founder of TAKE-M Transformation Organisation, described the participating students as intelligent and talented and that they want a different thing, but there is no room accorded them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They need to be exposed and this to encourage them to make research that will enable them to know more about their continent,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Tunde thanked Africell Gambia Limited, Social Security and Housing Financial Cooperation and Yonna Forex Bureau for their support.<\/p>\n<p>Fatima Camara, a Copyright Inspector at the National Centre for Arts and Culture, on behalf of the Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), gave a brief history of African Union.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;African Union is a continental union consisting of 55 members states, located on the continent of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>She said Africa was first called \u2018Alkebulan\u2019 which means the land of the blacks or the mother of mankind.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The word was driven from the Arabic and versions of indigenous Africans languages. The continent of Africa has 40% percent of its Chromium, platinum, the largest reserve of Cobalt, Diamonds, platinum and Uranium in world are in Africa.
