Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>An ex-councilor for Sabi ward in Basse recently appeared before the Local Government Commission where he shed light on work attitude at the Basse Area Council (BsAC) and the way they handle council\u2019s funds.<\/b><\/p>\n

Yuba Jawara, who appeared before the ongoing Local Government Commission of Inquiry, alleged that there is no control system in the way the council\u2019s funds were spent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no budget control. The problem was mainly lack of control in the way council\u2019s funds were spent. The council is not interested in the rule of procedures. The council is not interested in the rule of law. Some of the councilors and the council staff do not know about the rules and regulations in the legislation. Some never see the legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, in some instances you will see councilors come and attend meetings for 15 minutes and then leave.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey used to only come for the sitting allowance,\u201d he also disclosed, adding there were no standing orders and that the meetings were not orderly.<\/p>\n
