Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Lawmakers considered and adopted a report of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Constitutional Matters on legal practitioners (amendment) bill 2023.<\/b><\/p>\n

Tabling the report, Madi M.K Ceesay, member for Serekunda West and chairperson of the Committee, disclosed that the Bill seeks to amend the existing Legal Practitioners Act (2017), which he added, efficiently addresses the issues of professional misconduct of Legal Practitioners, Legal Education, Legal Aid and Pupillage, as stated in the Objects and Reasons.<\/p>\n

On the Object and Reasons of the Bill, he added that it is proposed that the objects and reasons as presented by the Mover during the second reading be adopted to stand part of the Bill in the consideration stage.<\/p>\n

The committee, he went on, was mandated to list out witnesses, hold proceedings and take evidence from witnesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecord the opinion of the Committee on each clause and schedule of the Bill and identify any amendment recommended. Present Amendments in the order in which they stand in the Bill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPresent a report incorporating the summary of the evidence from the witnesses, the opinion of the Committee on the clauses and attach relevant records of minutes of the proceedings of the Committee.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Committee proposes that that section stands as part of the Bill without amendment and members adopted the report after concerns raised.<\/p>\n
