Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Human rights education and awareness is gaining significant traction in the Gambia as the government teams up partners and civil society organizations in a joint effort strengthening programs and initiatives expanding rights promotion and protection across all spectrum of Gambian society.<\/b><\/p>\n

In the Gambia, \u2018Beakanyang\u2019 is one of the leading organisations promoting human rights. The local NGO is shaping the minds of young people with programs teaching fundamental human rights and ways to strengthen a culture of rights for all.<\/p>\n

The Executive Director of \u2018Beakanyang\u2019 NfamaraJawaneh described the day as a genuine cause that binds them to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.<\/p>\n

Extending a call for action, Mr. Jawaneh urged the government and institutions to reaffirm their commitment to human rights principles, aligning policies and practices with the values of freedom, equality, and justice for all citizens.<\/p>\n

The President of The Gambia Press Union, Muhammed S Bah and the representative from the National Human Rights Commission, Matilda Mendy also echoed the same message, saying there is a need to come together as a nation to promote and protect human rights for a better tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The day also witnessed a match pass by students from various schools in the country, a quiz competition final and presentations on the state of human rights in the country by human rights advocates.<\/p>\n
