Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Management of Kerewan Area Council has trained 39 revenue collectors on cash book preparation and cash management to enhance effective management of the council\u2019s finance. The training was held at council\u2019schambers in Kerewan North Bank Region.<\/b><\/p>\n

Sainabu Martin Sonko, CEO of Kerewan Area Council underscored the importance of council commitment to enhance capacity of revenue collectors on cash book preparation and management.<\/p>\n

She notes that her vision is to transform the council in terms of harnessing human resource to ensure that, all council monies are well documented and ensure collectors operate within the framework of financial policy governing council revenues.<\/p>\n

\u2018\u2019The training will help to develop an understanding of what is expected of them as revenue collectors in terms of proper records keeping and management, particularly their cash books preparations and cash management skills as required by procedures and the legal frameworks that guide the operations of the council in delivering services and development projects to the people NBR,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

Madam CEO Sonko reiterated that the council promoted open door policy and called on institutions and organizations to partner with the council to respond to the development needs of tax payers as the council source of revenue is low.<\/p>\n

Chairman Papa Tunkara of Kerewan Area Council described the training as important and call on collectors\u2019 to be vigilant and support the council in revenue generation. He said training on cash books preparations and management would contribute to promote accountability and transparency. Chairman Tunkara assured of his council commitment to make it people- centeredcouncil through collaboration and networking.<\/p>\n

Other speakers included, Chief Alpha Mariam Khan, Abdoulie Khan Director of Finance and Alasan Keita Director of Planning and Development with the council.<\/p>\n
