Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Principal Magistrate Muhammed Krubally of Banjul Magistrates\u2019 Court yesterday convicted and sentenced LaminKijera to five years imprisonment for stealing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The convict is found guilty of stealing some items, worth D24,125.00, that belong to Mustapha Jammeh.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Krubally noted that Kijera initially denied a single count of theft pressed against him but later on, accepted willingly the charge. He said Lamin Kijera took responsibility for stealing items from Mustapha Jammeh worth D24,125.00 at Banjul Ferry Terminal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have also taken into account the three previous convictions of the accused in Essau Magistrates\u2019 Court which the accused confirmed and the court confirmed the same. These mean the accused is a habitual offender who keeps going around stealing people\u2019s properties, breaking into people\u2019s shops, and causing them (victims) economic hardship which this court cannot entertain at all,\u201d Magistrate Krubally stated.<\/p>\n

The Magistrate stated that even though he was remorseful of his actions he (Magistrate Krubally) has assessed that there is no demeanor Kijera.<\/p>\n

Handling his final judgment on the accused he said \u201cPursuant to Section 252 of the Criminal Code which legally authorized theft punishment for five years, I hereby accordingly sentence the accused herein Lamin Kijera to five years imprisonment.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on saying \u201cSince it is established the accused cannot herein left the victim herein Mustapha Jammeh economic hardship and loss of D24,125.00, I hereby order the accused herein to compensate him such money in default to serve 1-year in prison. The sentence term shall run concurrently.\u201d<\/p>\n
