Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Light the World 2023, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Banjul branch The Gambia recently extended magnanimity to needy families in the country with the presentation of food items worth about D300,000.<\/b><\/p>\n

The items donated include; 50kg of 90 bags of rice, sugar, oil and tomato paste. The presentation was held on the theme; \u201cLet Your Light Shine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The gesture, which forms the first-ever food donation by the organistion, was presented to needy families within the Kanifing Municipality and Banjul.<\/p>\n

Also, the distribution was in celebration of the Month of Christmas, a period when Christians show much love and care to the needy.<\/p>\n

At a ceremony held The Gambia Tourism and Hospitality Institute (Gambia Hotel School), Samuel Owusu Amako, president of the Banjul branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reminded that annually they join with friends and neighbors to lift one another’s burdens and celebrate the birth and life of Jesus Christ through service.<\/p>\n

\u201cLight the World is a worldwide event to touch the hearts and change lives by doing the things Jesus did; feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick and afflicted, and showing kindness to everyone. Jesus said, \u201cYou are the light of the world\u201d (Matthew 5:14).\u201d<\/p>\n

He further explained that there would be a number of launch events in different countries throughout the West Africa area.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the Gambia, this year is the first time we are organising this event.\u201d he informed.<\/p>\n

The beneficiaries included both Christian and Muslim families, adding that at the Church they don\u2019t discriminate; something that symbolises the strong inter-faith harmony and religious tolerance in the country.<\/p>\n

Welcoming the gathering, Binta Janneh-Jallow, the deputy mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, thanked the members of the Church for the humanitarian services.<\/p>\n

She assured that the items donated would be put to good use.<\/p>\n
