Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Epidemiology and Disease Control Unit of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with WHO, on Wednesday, 20th December 2023 offered free medical services to people of Gunjur community, Kombo South, and surrounding villages.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking at this free exercise, Dr. Akinfemi Akingboye CEO of TOSOL Initiative from the UK said the initiative is a three-day action started at EFSTH.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that at the start of the program at EFSTH he gave lectures at the surgical department of the hospital while on day two they did some operations and on day three was a community outreach in Gunjur where the team rendered free medical services and gave clothes to the people of the Gunjur community and its environment.<\/p>\n

In Gunjur, he noted that the team offered free dental service, checking of blood pressure, sugar level, blood HP, and eye care services with free eyeglasses.<\/p>\n

Dr. Akinfemi described Gunjur community as a very accommodating and very friendly community and they want this initiative to be a countrywide activity while calling on other NGOs to come forward for collaboration so that the initiative can reach the whole country.<\/p>\n

Dr. Funmi Ogun, consultant Ophthalmologist at Skeikh ZayedRegional Eye Care Centre, Kanifing said they have received a lot of people with different eye problems and gave them free eyeglasses.<\/p>\n

She therefore encouraged people to seek medical treatment whenever they noticed some difficulties in their eyes or have a family history of blindness for early treatment.<\/p>\n

She also encouraged people to use eye protection, especially at times of this type of season while those working in the factory to avoid hurting their eyes thus more of the cases received at the hospital are due to eye accidents which led some people to blindness.<\/p>\n

Dr. Peter Adeyeyi, Convener for The Stone Development Foundation, Mariama Sambou, and Omar Manjang among others made remarkable statements during the services.<\/p>\n
