{"id":50554,"date":"2024-01-03T18:13:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T18:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/?p=50554"},"modified":"2024-01-03T15:29:58","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T15:29:58","slug":"president-barrow-wins-african-prize-for-peace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/president-barrow-wins-african-prize-for-peace","title":{"rendered":"President Barrow wins African Prize for Peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>Gambian President Adama Barrow has been named winner of the African Prize for Peace 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This was announced when President Barrow received a delegation from the Select Committee of the African Conference for Promoting Peace at the State House last Friday to deliver a letter announcing the award.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the State House said the President of the Select Committee, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah, informed the Gambian President of the award.<\/p>\n<p>President Barrow was recognised for his efforts in promoting peace and human dignity, and as an inspiration for other African leaders to emulate in building a peaceful and prosperous future for the African Continent.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the news, President Barrow expressed gratitude for the nomination, and said: \u201cI am grateful to receive such news. It is indeed a great honour to follow the footsteps of people like the former President Muhammad Buhari in receiving this recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The African Prize for Promoting Peace is a Mauritanian initiative established in 2020 in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum in the United Arab Emirates.
