Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Security apparatuses from The Gambia and Senegal have signed an agreement to stop cross-border crimes in both countries.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Deputy Chiefs of Staff of the Senegalese and Gambian armies on Wednesday 17 January 2024 signed an agreement to combat border crimes following the recent arrest of a Gambian man who illegally constructed a clandestine mini-hydraulic borehole on the border between Senegal and The Gambia, about 6km north of Me\u0301dina-Mary (southern Gambissara village).<\/p>\n

The agreement, according to Seneweb.com, was signed at the end of a bipartite seminar bringing together branches of the land armies of Senegal and The Gambia.<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony of the agreement was jointly led by Brigadier General Fulgence Ndour, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Senegalese army, and Brigadier General Ousman Gomez, Deputy Chief of Defence of the Gambia Armed Forces. The convention followed the meeting of the two Chiefs of General Staff of both countries, and marked the start of a great collaboration with the establishment of a bipartite defence committee.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis committee will be the official framework for discussion and consideration of all threats at the two borders,\u201d said Brigadier General Fulgence Ndour.<\/p>\n

Brigadier General Ndour said the meeting made it possible to analyse security issues at the borders of the two countries. The meeting has made it possible to agree on the need to secure the spaces of these neighbouring countries, and to jointly control them, he added.<\/p>\n

He also disclosed that an operational plan to manage security at the borders of two countries \u201cwill therefore be developed and implemented\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Senegalese army chief thus announced the decision to set up a combined and parallel mixed patrol and joint operations in military zones No. 3, 6 and particularly in zone no. 5.<\/p>\n

Concerning possible border problems, General Ndour said the national border management commission has been working hard to find negotiated and concerted solutions to the various problems.<\/p>\n
