Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Ministry of Finance, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, yesterday inaugurated the newly appointed members of the Tax Tribunal. The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Honorable Seedy Keita, in the conference room of the ministry.<\/b><\/p>\n

The newly appointed and sworn-in members of the tax court are: Justice George Appah Kwanbeng, who is the chairman of the tax court, Mr Sheriff Kumba Jobe, Mr Bakary Sanyang, Mr Lamin S. Jatta, and Mamour Joof.<\/p>\n

During his inauguration speech, Mr Yankuba Darboe, the Director General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), said he was delighted to take part in the solemn inauguration of the new members of the Tax Tribunal<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is indeed a momentous day that marks an important milestone in the evolution of our tax system and in our quest for fairness, justice and transparency in our tax administration system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the board and management of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr Darboe extended his sincere congratulations to the newly appointed members of the Revenue Tribunal and applauded them for agreeing to serve in this capacity.” distinguished.” \u201cThe selection of the members of the Fiscal Tribunal demonstrates their knowledge, expertise, integrity and commitment to upholding the principles of justice and fairness in our administrative system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The cautious and thoughtful Director General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) added: \u201cI have every confidence that each of you will bring your experience to the court, and I have no doubt that you will discharge your duties. your tasks diligently and with the greatest impartiality. \u00bb<\/p>\n

According to Mr Darboe, the tax court is established under article 256 of the Income Tax and Value Added Tax Act, with a view to hearing requests for review of decisions taken by the director general or officials acting under his authority.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the establishment of a tax tribunal under our laws is intended to enable taxpayers not only to challenge the tax assessments of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), but also to provide taxpayers with an independent means to seek redress for tax decisions made by the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA).<\/p>\n

He also said that the appointment of the tax tribunal members is a crucial part of the government’s commitment to establishing a fair, transparent and just tax system that ensures that taxpayers meet their share of the tax burden without yet be forced to pay more than their fair share of the tax burden. \u201cI would like to congratulate the Minister of Economy and Finance for his constant support over the years and for his dedication to the proper functioning of the tax court,\u201d he said, adding that the Tax Administration of The Gambia (GRA) is committed to providing its full support to the Tax Tribunal in all possible ways.<\/p>\n

Presiding over the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Seedy Keita said: \u201cThe establishment of the Tax Tribunal represents an important step in our ongoing efforts to find an effective and accessible way to address taxpayers’ grievances. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recognize the importance of a dispute resolution mechanism that not only respects the principles of justice, but also inspires confidence in our citizens that their concerns are being heard and addressed impartially by an independent body. \u00bb<\/p>\n
