Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Banjul Heritage Inventory Project supported by UNESCO through the Participation Program 2022\/2023 fully implemented by the National Centre For Arts and Culture (NCAC) with the support of stakeholders in Banjul City is fully completed, monitored, and evaluated by the stakeholders.<\/b><\/p>\n

The monitoring and evaluation session of the completed Banjul Heritage Inventory was held at the National Museum Conference Hall, Banjul on Monday, 29th January 2024 by the stakeholders<\/p>\n

The project was meant to make an inventory of tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Banjul, the Gambia capital with a view to beauty elaborating the management plan for the protection and contribution of the Banjul heritage and also with the view of doing a legislative framework and namely the preparation of a regulation that will be signed by the Honorable Minister of Tourism and Culture so as to be able to protect intangible cultural heritage in the Banjul City.<\/p>\n

The Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Mr. Hassoum Ceesay disclosed that many people, as it is now, take the opportunity the fact that they own certain places and with the hope that these heritages can be destroyed for new building to come up, \u201cthis is untenable situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through this project, he explained, \u201cWe will have the management plan, trained tour guides to help interprets this city and to also have heritage trail inside the city, which will cover the area of interest in the city that visitors can come and visit. Among other things, too, it will help generate revenue for the city there can be home stays, and opportunities. And of course, training for the youth of the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Director General revealed that his centre is working with the councilors in the Banjul City Council and other stakeholders, while he thanked National Commission for UNESCO TheGambia, and UNESCO for their strong support through the Participation Program under the historic urbanization program of UNESCO.<\/p>\n
