Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Saikou Jawara, the Chairman of the Kuntaur Area Council, has concluded his three-month visit to the United States, deviating from the originally approved fourteen-day duration by the council.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Star FM, Chairman Jawara elaborated on the reasons behind his extended stay in the USA, emphasizing that it was not a personal choice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI returned on Thursday night. The extended duration in America was motivated by my commitment to working for the people. It was not my intention. America is known for its myriad opportunities, providing avenues for significant benefits to one\u2019s community. Although not my preference, I stayed longer for a purpose,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

Chairman Jawara clarified that his visit to the US was primarily to attend the World Conference of Mayors, which comprised multiple meetings, with the last one scheduled for January 24-28.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe main reason for my extended stay was the conference\u2019s schedule. Knowing the financial constraints of my council, I anticipated that returning in October would hinder my attendance at the crucial final meeting. This last meeting was pivotal, hosting investors, partners, and mayors. Therefore, I made the sacrifice, fully aware of my council\u2019s limited resources,\u201d Chairman Jawara noted.<\/p>\n

He underscored that his entire stay in the US was a personal sacrifice since the council did not provide any financial support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the council covered my travel expenses, it was not without struggle. The payment was incomplete, and, Alhamdulillah, I chose to sacrifice for the greater good. The council owes me allowances for my stay in the US, and despite receiving no payment, I persisted in my mission to bring benefits to the people of CRR North and The Gambia at large,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

Press reached out to the Vice Chairman, who confirmed the Chairman\u2019s return to the country.<\/p>\n
