Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The assistant commissioner of the police and regional crime officer for the West Coast Region, Boto Keita, has informed the press that the dead body found in the bushes of Bonto, Kombo East District, was suspiciously an insane person as per investigation at that stage.<\/b><\/p>\n

The incident was reported at the Mandinaba Police Station that a dead-burnt body of a man was found in the bushes of Bonto on the 30th of January, 2024.<\/p>\n

The police made this revelation at a press briefing held at the Brikama police station on Friday, 2nd February 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201d The only eye-witness to the scene is a masonry worker by profession. He is the first person who saw this dead body. He confirmed to the investigation team that he has been seeing the deceased at the site with a lot of plastic bottles containing water. The eye-witness confirmed that the man is suspected lunatic, but he could not confirm whether there was fire when he last saw the man there. He said after missing the area for about two weeks, when he came back to work, he smelled very strong odor within the area, and he decided to find out what the odor was about, this was the time he found the dead body lying. The eye-witness clearly attested that it was the man he usually saw at the site,\u201d regional crime officer, Boto Keita, clarified.<\/p>\n

Assistant Superintendent Amadou Kujabi, deputy regional crime officer for the West Coast Region, said the police established that a dead body was found in the bushes of Bonto when we heard of the news.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have observed that there was fire within the site about two meters away from the dead body. Initially, there was suspicion that this individual might have been burnt. We established that the body has been lying there for a week or so and it has already started decaying, but we have taken the body to the mortuary, and we requested to have a postmortem done on the body,\u201d Mr. Kujabi said.<\/p>\n

He further informed that the cause of the dead is still unknown to them until after the postmortem. He added that through the findings of the pathologists, they will be able to know whether the body was burnt or not.<\/p>\n

The police PRO, Binta Njie, assured that the police would do all it could to conclusively investigate and report accurately to the public.<\/p>\n
