{"id":53768,"date":"2024-02-26T19:16:14","date_gmt":"2024-02-26T19:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/?p=53768"},"modified":"2024-02-26T19:16:14","modified_gmt":"2024-02-26T19:16:14","slug":"nam-says-hes-vindicated-for-opposing-national-dialogue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/gambia\/all-news\/nam-says-hes-vindicated-for-opposing-national-dialogue","title":{"rendered":"NAM says he\u2019s vindicated for opposing national dialogue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Gambia. <\/strong><\/span><b>UDP Central Baddibu lawmaker, Sulayman Saho, has said Deputy Speaker Seedy Njie\u2019s \u201cuncomplimentary\u201d remarks against his party leader Ousainu Darboe and the tear-gassing of \u201cAPRC No-to-Alliance\u201d supporters by the police a few days after President Barrow\u2019s meeting with leaders of political parties, vindicated his expressed opposition to the national dialogue.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Saho contended that instead of using the \u201cnational dialogue\u201d as an opportunity to promote tolerance and address the potential hurdles which threaten the peace, the ruling NPP and its allies are instead employing their old tactics of \u201cdivisive politics\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not support and recognise this dialogue from the start, and I have been vindicated. And left to me, no opposition party would have attended the dialogue. It is a deception. It is useless. What positive effect will come about if you are from a dialogue and start raining insults on political party leaders and using the police to tear gas innocent civilians?\u201d Saho queried.<\/p>\n<p>He said the deputy speaker by virtue of his position in the legislature, should not be \u201ctrading in insults and making blanket statements against reputable political leaders\u201d whatever the circumstance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a comrade in the parliament, I advise you to desist from disrespecting my party leader [Darboe] because if you do so, I owe you no respect and anybody.
