Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>Veteran diplomat Haggi Jawara, the Consul General of The Gambia to Angola, highlighted the significant developments currently underway in The Gambia, stressing that President Barrow needs massive support to rapidly transform and develop the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

In an interview, Mr Jawara said: \u201cA massive transformation is currently taking place in all sectors of the country, particularly in the area of \u200b\u200brenewal of the country’s road infrastructure. Therefore, for this trend to continue, we must support the president. \u00bb<\/p>\n

He went on to say: \u201cAs a country, we could compete with other developed countries with tangible infrastructural development if we are united as a nation and support the aspirations of the government. We may have divergent views on policies and programs, but supporting the development and improvement of the nation should be a priority for each of us. \u00bb<\/p>\n

The world is constantly progressing, he continued, and the country must therefore accelerate its development. \u201cWe cannot just play politics or continually criticize the government without proposing meaningful or constructive programs. The government also needs all able-bodied hands in the country for the development of the nation. Countries around the world have political parties with different ideologies, but when their country’s development is at stake, they all rally around the leader for their own development. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Further, Mr Jawara applauds the Gambian leader for calling for a national dialogue: “This will go a long way towards national unity and ensuring that we all work together as Gambians, regardless of our political affiliation or differences , for the common good of the country. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, political dialogue could have been a better starting point for the country to put more development programs on the table. Through this dialogue, leaders of different political parties could discuss how to transform the country and the ideas they propose to the government to implement. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Mr Jawara expressed his views on the ongoing Operation \u201cFree the Roads\u201d, which aims to eliminate illegal encroachments on our main roads. Mr Jawara welcomed the idea, adding: “Angola experienced similar problems in the past on its public roads until he (Jawara) wrote to the Angolan president for the public space to be cleared, and this, in order to ensure the fluidity of traffic and business. \u00bb<\/p>\n

\u201cAs soon as my letter reached the Angolan leader, he wasted no time in implementing my request to clear public roads. Today, it is a culture rooted in Angola, which does not allow any illegal structures on public property and I hope that the same culture will take root in The Gambia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
