Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>A clerk with Yonna Microfinance Dawda Colley appeared before the Brikama Magistrates\u2019 Court for allegedly stealing D2.3M from the microfinance institution.<\/b><\/p>\n

Colley has been slammed with the offense of stealing by clerk or servant, contrary to Section 258 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Vol. III, Laws of The Gambia (2009).<\/p>\n

The details of the alleged offense indicated that Colley in Y2020 stole D2,333,900.00 from the Jambanjelly and Farato branches of Yonna Micro-Finance but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n

Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy, presiding granted a D3, 000,000.00 court bail to Colley to enable him to gain his liberty as the case proceeds. As part of the bail conditions, he must also provide three sureties of Gambian nationality, one of whom must own a landed property within the West Coast Region or the Greater Banjul Area in the like sum and each of the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means of D1,000,000,00.<\/p>\n

Colley was also ordered to surrender his travel documents to the office of the registrar of the court.<\/p>\n

ASP Buteh Sawaneh represented the IGP in the case, which resumes for a full hearing on 18 April 2024.<\/p>\n
