Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced the installation at Banjul Port of a state-of-the-art scanning system capable of detecting anything illegal.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the best scanning systems in West Africa,\u201d said the Managing Director, Mr Yankuba Darboe.<\/p>\n

During a visit to the Banjul seaport on Thursday, the Director General told journalists that the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) currently has two live tracking devices for goods and vehicles bound for The Gambia.He described the system as very sophisticated and urged Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) staff to use it to avoid any leaks. He added that this tracking system would help the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) collect much-needed revenue for national development.<\/p>\n

According to the Director General, the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has two live control rooms, one at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) headquarters and the other in a single office. \u201cThis has improved the level of compliance and therefore increased revenue collection,\u201d Mr Darboe said.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) was working hard to implement numerous reforms to facilitate The Gambia’s transition from manual to digital service delivery. effective.<\/p>\n

Mr Darboe said the Banjul port is one of the biggest sources of revenue for the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), contributing 60-65% of revenue. \u201cThis is why the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) considers it very appropriate to install a state-of-the-art scanning machine at the seaport, which will interface with the planned one-stop shop to detect any false goods declaration.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the scanning machine is intended to improve the efficiency of service delivery at Banjul Port and remove all obstacles that result in loss of revenue for the country.<\/p>\n

The scanning machine is a sophisticated device that can track or detect any illegal smuggling of goods in any container passing through the port.<\/p>\n

Mr Darboe promised that the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) will not shy away from the effort and will do everything humanly possible to increase Gambia’s revenue.<\/p>\n

He revealed that the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) collected over D1.7 billion for the month of January 2024 alone and D1.4 billion for the month of February.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that March’s revenues will exceed those of the last two months,\u201d he said optimistically.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the government relies on the revenue collected by the GRA for development projects.<\/p>\n

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) board also visited the new electronic weighbridge installed at Banjul Port, designed to monitor bulk containers and facilitate the counting of goods declarations in any container.<\/p>\n

According to Mr Darboe, the weighbridge demonstrates the commitment and determination of the GRA board and management to ensure that any loaded truck carrying a container is properly controlled.<\/p>\n

The new weighbridge will help improve the efficiency of GRA staff in collecting the necessary revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe weighbridge will be used to detect all trucks carrying containers and will be able to determine the number of tonnes of goods contained in each container,\u201d Mr Darboe said.<\/p>\n

The electronic weighbridge project was part of the GRA’s agreement with the PPP Partnership One Stop Shop team and was coordinated by the GRA with a view to improving the efficiency of service delivery and linkages between the seals.<\/p>\n

The GRA Board of Directors visited several branches in the Banjul metropolitan area for interactive sessions and to get first-hand information on the challenges and successes recorded.<\/p>\n
