Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The National Assembly\u2019s Public Enterprise Committee\u2019s report for 2019 and 2020 showed that the Gambia Ferry Service Company\u2019s annual car allowance for employees amounts to D11.344,000.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Chairperson of the committee, Lamin L. Sanneh, stated that \u201ccar allowance is paid to employees that are maintaining a car in a road safety condition as stated in section 0903 of the approved service rules. Furthermore, section 0904 further states that car allowance shall cease to be payable with effect from the date on which an employee ceases to own a private motor car\u201d.<\/p>\n

He further stated that during the auditors\u2019 review of the personnel files, they noted inadequate documents in the file to ascertain a review is done on an annual basis to ensure staff receiving allowances have a car in a road-worthy condition.<\/p>\n

The report also stated that the payroll allowance is not in the service rule book.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe auditors noted the following monthly allowances paid to various employees but the allowance is not in the approved service rule book used by the company,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe auditors conducted a review on the service rule to ensure management is complying with the requirements of the service rule, but it was noted that there exists a noncompliance on the job description, staff appraisals and certificate of health,\u201d the report further states.<\/p>\n

The committee recommends that the Management should ensure that controls are in place to ensure personnel, receiving car allowances are entitled to it and that all allowances are captured in the service rule of the company and Management must ensure compliance with the service rule.<\/p>\n
