Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to support the vulnerable people in the holy month of Ramadan, Karpowership, a Turkish energy company in The Gambia on Saturday presented foodstuff worth about $10,000 equivalent to D679, 250 to needy Gambians.<\/b><\/p>\n

The foodstuffs include: 162 bags of Rice,106 bags of Sugar, and 60 boxes of 10kg Dates. The gesture was presented to Banjul Fishermen Association, Women Group in Banjul, Madarasa Ghahira and Sancha Madarasa.<\/p>\n

In his presentation, Omar A.B. Njie, the country manager for Karpowership, said the gesture was part of the energy company\u2019s corporate social responsibility (CSR) annual programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been doing such gestures since 2018 through our CSR programme. Every year we will do at least two or three programmes of this nature just to support the vulnerable such as orphanage centres, women and fishermen associations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery year, we put a budget to our CSR programme whereby we support the needy with foodstuffs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

CM Njie said the company has been helping Gambians in the health sector, education and environment among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the past seven years, we have spent almost 30 million dalasis aid to the society. We had provided energy to the Gambian people,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n

Alhagie Mama Jallow, officer in charge of Madarasa Ghahira in Kombo Farato, commended Karpowership for the gesture. He assured that the donated food items would go a long way in helping him to feed his students.<\/p>\n

Jallow prayed for Allah to bestow his blessing on the energy company so that it attains the sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who has the habit to provide foodstuffs to others will easily grow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Babou Cham, president of Banjul Fishermen Association, also thanked the Karpowership for it humanitarian services.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so grateful for this gesture. May your earnings increase so that you could give out more to others,\u201d he prayed.<\/p>\n

In February 2018, Karpowership signed a contract with the National Water and Electricity Company (Nawec) of The Gambia to deploy a power of 36 MW.<\/p>\n

The company has since been operating in The Gambia and has been supplying about 60% of Gambia\u2019s total electricity needs.<\/p>\n
