Africa-Press – Gambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Brikama Area Council has called on the general public, especially vendors who wish to be allocated space at the periphery of the Brikama Central Market to demand receipt on the spot if any payment is made for space occupancy and resist all unauthorized agents.<\/b><\/p>\n

Allegations were made that some unauthorized agents were collecting monies from people who wanted to occupy space outside the market for the \u2018Koriteh\u2019 sales.<\/p>\n

A statement released by the BAC disclosed that a team was established to investigate the current alleged corruption practice.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing a tip for alleged corruption practice in the market on space allocation for Eid Sale \u201cKoriteh Wanteer\u201d. The management wishes to inform the general public that efforts were made to unearth the truth surrounding this circumstance. The council, through the market and car park sub-committee, has established a team assigned to allocate space to the public for \u201cWanteer\u201d for D500 per space at the peripheral BrikamaCentral Market,\u201d BAC emphasized in the statement.<\/p>\n

However, the statement continued that \u201cDuring the process of allocation earlier on Friday afternoon, the team was confronted by a group of women around the Church towards the frontage of Brikama Police Station, alleging that, a general duty police officer (GPF) already obtained D500 from each of them without receipt for the space they already occupied. Thus, a form of resistance to the pay council\u2019s charge emerged. Swiftly, the matter was resolved, and they complied paying. The alleged matter was taken to the Brikama Police Station for clarity, but the command denied the allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Therefore, the Brikama Area Council advised the public to demand receipt of payment (D500) on the spot and desist from making payment to unauthorized agents.<\/p>\n
